General Information

CTF awards grants to organizations whose work supports Virginia-based transfusion medicine or laboratory science and aligns with CTF’s mission. While most CTF grants are awarded to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations, CTF will consider applications from other organization types on a case-by-case basis. All applicants, regardless of tax status, must demonstrate a clear and direct benefit to the Commonwealth of Virginia and alignment with CTF’s funding priorities.

Review

External Review

CTF reserves the right to engage transfusion medicine and other experts from around the country to review grant applications when requested by the Board of Directors.  The External Review Committee is comprised of a well-rounded group of professionals that are actively involved in transfusion medicine research, education, and practice. The External Review Committee provides feedback to the Board of Directors regarding Letters of Inquiry and Grant Applications; however, the final decision rests with the CTF Board of Directors.

How To Apply For A CTF Grant

CTF manages its grant process through Temelio, a secure online grants management platform. All steps, from submitting a Letter of Inquiry to receiving grant funds, are completed through your Temelio account. Consult the steps below for our process or access the CTF grant portal to get started.

Step 1 — Create a Temelio Account

  • First-time applicants should create a free account through CTF’s Temelio portal. You can enter your organization’s EIN to automatically populate your profile.

  • Returning applicants can log in to find your organization’s information already on file.

Step 2 — Submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI)

  • Grant applications are accepted by invitation only. The first step is to submit a Letter of Inquiry (LOI) through your Temelio account.

  • LOIs may be submitted at any time during the CTF fiscal year (October 1 through September 30). However, to be considered for the current grant cycle, LOI’s are 30 days before Grant Application deadline.

  • LOIs will be reviewed within 2 weeks of receipt. You will receive notification of the decision through Temelio.

Step 3 — Submit a Grant Application

  • If your LOI is approved, an invitation to apply will be issued and your application will appear in your Temelio account.

  • Applications are reviewed by the CTF Board of Directors twice yearly. Applications must be received by December 31 and July 31, respectively.

  • Applicants are notified of the Board’s decision in February and September.

  •  Grant funds are generally issued within 30 days of receipt of Grant Agreement.

Step 4 — Reporting

  • All grant recipients are required to submit regular progress and budget reports through their Temelio account. Automated reminders will be sent when reports are due.
